LAST ditch talks were due to be held today to try to avert a planned 48-hour strike by hundreds of First bus drivers in Bradford next week.
The meeting between Unite union officials and the Advisory Conciliation And Arbitration Service (ACAS) in Leeds will try to settle the dispute.
The decision to strike by 380 staff at the First Bradford depot in Bowling Back Lane from 1.30am next Monday has primarily been caused by the transfer of part of the 576 bus service from Bradford to Halifax, which the union claims has cost eight jobs.
First has dismissed all of the union’s claims and condemned its decision to stage the strike.
A First Bus spokesman yesterday said the company did not want to make any further comment ahead of today’s talks but it was working hard to resolve the issue and avoid industrial action.
