POLICE are hunting an arsonist who is setting fire to cars in Liversedge in overnight attacks.
Four vehicles were torched in the space of seven days, two of which were parked on the driveways to the owners' homes.
Now, police and the fire service are working together to investigate the incidents in the hope of finding the culprit.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "We are investigating following a series of arson attacks on parked vehicles in Liversedge over the last week.
"Given the similarities and close proximity of these incidents we are linking them and are working with the fire service in investigating these offences.
"We believe these arson attacks have all happened during the early hours and would urge anyone who has seen anyone behaving suspiciously or who has information which could help our ongoing enquiries to call Batley and Spen neighbourhood policing team on 101."
The first reported fire happened on April 14, when a Renault Megane was damaged while it was parked in Firthcliffe Road.
Three days later a Suzuki Swift that was parked on a driveway in Stanley Lane was also damaged by a blaze.
The third arson attack happened overnight between last Saturday and Sunday, when a Vauxhall Astra parked on the driveway of a property in Firthcliffe Lane was targeted.
The latest incident was on Tuesday, when another Vauxhall Astra was set alight while parked in Firthcliffe Drive.
Fire crews from Cleckheaton station were called to the latest incident at about 4.05am.
A fire service spokesman said: "We have been there a couple of times over the last week or so."
Police said another vehicle parked near the Astra was slightly damaged by the fire.
No-one was injured in any of the attacks.
Councillor David Hall (Con, Liversedge and Gomersal) said: "It is terrible for the residents concerned, but it is also amazingly irresponsible.
"I think they must think it is a joke, but it is incredibly dangerous to set fire to cars because there is a big risk of explosions."
Cllr Hall added: "I know the police are on to it, but if anyone knows anything or saw anything suspicious, please report it to the police."
Cllr Simon Alvy (Lab, Liversedge and Gomersal) said he had not been aware of the attacks, but he added: "I will be speaking to our local officers about this. They are a very, very capable local neighbourhood team.
"I fully back them - it is a very good team we have in Kirklees. I hope we get to the bottom of it very soon."
Anyone with information about the arson attacks should contact West Yorkshire Police on 101.
