UNIVERSITY of Bradford volunteers went to Wembley over the weekend to collect donations for Bradford’s Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit, set up in the aftermath of the City fire tragedy in 1985.
The fundraisers were at the FA Cup semi-finals, which saw Arsenal beat Reading and Aston Villa beat Liverpool, to raise money for the unit, which is based at the University of Bradford and led by consultant plastic surgeon, Ajay L Mahajan.
The burns unit was founded by Professor David Sharpe following the fire disaster at Valley Parade, in which 56 football fans lost their lives, and 258 others were injured.
Its research looks at ways in which wound healing and scarring can be improved to deliver the best possible outcome for patients.
