He said: "It's frustrating. It's a shambles. I'm sick of it. It was just gridlocked. The whole journey took me an hour and a half."
A Leeds City Council spokesman said: "We would like to apologised for any disruption or delays. experienced by motorists along the A647 Bradford Road.
"Following an investigation, no specific issues were found as to why delays were longer than usual, other than there was lot more traffic on the road which is likely because of half-term ending and the return of the school run.
"We will be monitoring the position from tomorrow until the scheme's completion in two weeks' time and put in place whatever remedial measures we can to ensure people are not unduly delayed by the works.
"We remain confident that work on the scheme will be completed on schedule."
