TV PRESENTER Gabby Logan will visit a Pudsey school today to start a major fundraising and awareness campaign into a genetic disorder affecting the granddaughter of one of its staff.
One-year-old Betsy Kay, the granddaughter of Fulneck School nursery nurse Lyn Kay – and a cousin of sporting commentator Mrs Logan – was born with Mitochondrial disease, which affects growth and development. As a result, the school has named Mitochondrial Disease Awareness as its charity of the year, which is seeing its pupils, staff and parents undertaking a series of fundraising initiatives throughout 2015.
Mrs Logan will be swapping the studio for Fulneck’s school fields to start a balloon race this morning, with the one that travels the furthest winning a prize for its owner. Fulneck School principal Deborah Newman said: “We are delighted that Gabby has agreed to perform the honours for us and help give our charity balloon race a much-needed ‘lift’.”
