FUNDRAISERS took to two wheels for a charity collection with a difference.
The group of cyclists called at 20 mosques across the district to gather money for Marie Curie Cancer Care through the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
Madni Mosque in Newton Street, West Bowling, served as the base for the charity endeavour, and from there the team cycled to mosques in Bradford Moor, Barkerend, Manningham, Heaton and Shipley, among others.
Worshippers at each mosque had been collecting money in advance of their visit.
Yesterday’s 20-mile cycle ride was organised by the mosques alongside the district’s Youth Service.
One of the organisers, Naz Ali, said the group was comprised of people from all walks of life, and one of the aims was to show unity between communities.
He said they hoped it would now become an annual event, adding: “Hopefully in future we will collect from churches and temples as well.”
Mr Ali said the mosques had been keen to support a local charity, and added that Marie Curie did valuable work at its hospice in Maudsley Street, Bradford.
