DANCE lovers are set to be treated to a wide array of multicultural acts at the Bradford Festival this summer.
The line-up for the Bradford Council-run festival in June includes a range of innovative acts from across the UK.
The British dance company, Light The Fuse, will head to Bradford to stage its highly creative piece 'Full Stop', all performed in and around a bus shelter.
The company states that "anything can happen" in its anarchic new show, produced by Scribbled Thought, with queues becoming wresting matches, little old women sparking international incidents, and yummy mummies fighting to the death.
Late-night revellers have their own party on the roof, and late-shift workers dream of romance, as 'Full Stop' takes audiences through an action-packed 24 hours at the shelter.
Yorkshire is represented in the festival programme by the Sheffield-based Hype Dance Company, who will be performing 'Savage Beauty', a high-energy and hard-hitting piece inspired by the city's boxing scene.
The London-based Candoco Dance Company will bring its 2013 production 'Two for C', inspired by the Tennessee Williams' play, Camino Real.
Featuring Mexican wrestling masks, Lila Downs songs, and a large dose of dark humour, 'Two for C' is a display of brains versus brawn where the characters go to great lengths to secure their pride and honour.
Motionhouse, based in Leamington Spa, will perform 'Cascade', a show which combines the very best of dance and acrobatics in a physical and dramatic spectacle, in which the presence of water becomes more pressing until it sweeps all before it.
Set on a submerged house within rising flood waters, 'Cascade' is an exciting look at one family's scramble to keep their heads above water and their feet on dry land.
Traditional Indian dance will be showcased by a versatile local choreographer and dancer, Devika Rao, in collaboration with Prem Rai and Benaka Karanth.
Elements of music, dance, mime, costumes, and dialogue are finely blended to make 'Yakshagana', based on an ancient folk art form dating back to 15th century India, a piece of "vibrant living theatre."
The critically-acclaimed British dance company, C-12 Dance Theatre, who performed 'Trolleys' at the festival in 2012, return to City Park this year with 'Market Stall', a new piece which blends circus skills, parkour, and high-energy dance.
Clare Wilkinson, economic development programmes manager for Bradford Council, said: "We are really excited to be staging such a great range of high-quality dance at the festival this year.
"The Bradford Festival brings a vibrant, colourful, and multicultural programme of the very best international, British, and local theatre, art, music and dance right into the heart of Bradford.
"All the acts are free of charge, and everyone is welcome."
