DURING Saltaire World Heritage Weekend this Saturday and Sunday, Shipley Glen Tramway will celebrate its 120th anniversary in memory of its founder.
Sam Wilson built the tramway and ran it from 1895 to 1920. He said he had carried seven million passengers without a single accident. He died in 1940 and his grave is in Nab Wood Cemetery.
Over During the anniversary weekend, Tramway volunteers will dress in Victorian clothes and passengers will be able to ride at the original 1895 fares of 1d up and 1/2d down.
The passengers will present pre-decimal coins - which they can keep - to ride the tramway and receive commemorative tickets. Passengers dressed in Victorian clothes will receive a free ride.
