VOLUNTEERS will be driving round the streets of Bradford encouraging people to vote in the forthcoming elections.
A group from You Elect, a national scheme, will be touring Bradford in a silver Mercedes-Benz between now and May 6, urging people to vote.
The deadline for people to register to vote is Monday, April 20. After that, the group will still travel around the city, making sure people mark their cross on May 7.
The touring vehicle will include a loudhailer which will urge voters to sign up. Messages will be broadcast in English, Urdu and Bengali.
The group has also held a leaflet drop to 30,000 properties in Bradford.
Ebrar Khan, one of the volunteers, said: “A lot of people in Bradford have become disempowered by the political system.
“If they vote, that will give them back some empowerment to make a change.
“We particularly want to get young people to register to vote.
“The scheme is to get people to be part of the democratic system.
“We will be going round the streets of inner city Bradford every day until May 6, as and when we can.”
