A REPRESENTATIVE of Ecuador’s 'citizens’ revolution' will speak at a public meeting in Bradford.
Fidel Narváez (pictured) is First Secretary at Ecuador’s UK Embassy, and was previously a leader of the Permanent Assembly of Human Rights in Ecuador.
His visit has been organised by Bradford’s Latin America linking campaign, Viva!.
The chairman of Viva! Bradford, Ludi Simpson, said the group has been impressed by Latin America's policies to extend public services at a time when other western governments had focused on austerity.
He said: "In Uruguay, Bolivia, Venezuela and Ecuador the people have elected governments with priority for public education and housing.
"In Ecuador no company is allowed to declare profits if it does not pay a living wage, which has reduced poverty wages to a much smaller problem in only a few years. Investment in free health care and free education has driven Ecuador’s strong economic growth."
The open meeting is on Sunday, April 26, at the Kirkgate Centre in Shipley at 1.45pm.
