SMALL change from Yorkshire Building Society members is set to make a big difference to 24 charities and community groups across Bradford.
Eight branches within the district - Bradford Howard House, Bradford John Street, Pudsey, Shipley, Bingley, Keighley, Cleckheaton, and Wyke - took part in the society’s Charity Choices campaign, each splitting £1,000 between three different charities.
The amount each charity received was decided by a public vote. Recipients included the Bumble Bees Barbarians rugby club, which received £500, the Youth Café at Shipley and Bingley Voluntary Services, which was awarded £300, and the Bingley Civic Trust, which was given £200.
The campaign was supported by the YBS community scheme, Small Change Big Difference, in which more than 720,000 society members donate the pennies from the interest they receive on their accounts once a year.
Chris Barwick, manager of the Bingley branch of the company, said: “We had a brilliant response to the campaign from our members, local shoppers, and residents, but of course the real winners here are the charities, all of whom do a fantastic job of providing invaluable support in our local community.
“I’m sure the money will make a real difference.”
