A SPONSORED head shave at a pub in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance proved a runaway success.

Lisa Mcmanningwell, the landlady of the Guide Inn, Hainworth, Keighley, had her head shaved alongside her friend Jane Atkinson, barman Samuel Feather and regular customer John Mitchell.

All four lost their hair at the pub and have together raised nearly £4,000.

Lisa, whose mother Val Cawston was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer last October, explained that she and her friend Jane initially intended the shave to coincide with her mother’s chemotherapy.

This treatment did not go ahead, but the women decided to carry on with the fundraiser, supported by Samuel and John.

Lisa and Jane have donated their hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides free real-hair wigs to boys and girls who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other illnesses.

Lisa said her mother had wanted Yorkshire Air Ambulance to receive the sponsorship cash, adding that the head shave night had been extremely well supported.

The pub will again support Yorkshire Air Ambulance this summer when it hosts a custom and classic motorbike show in its car park.

The charity event will run from 6pm to 9pm on July 29, and is being sponsored by Cobb and Jagger motorcycle dealership, in Shipley.
