FURTHER funding has been granted for a volunteer project promoting pre-school services in Keighley such as childcare and education.
Parent Champions has been recruited to tell new mums and dads about services and activities available in the town.
The first batch of Keighley champions, trained by Bradford charity Artworks Creative Communities, recently received certificates for completing training.
They have visited community centres and toddler groups to let fellow parents know what is on offer from public bodies, businesses and the voluntary sector.
Artworks was commissioned by Bradford Council’s Early Childhood Services to provide training across the district.Council spokesman Susan Moreau said: “Mums, dads and carers are often best placed to provide support to other parents in a variety of situations.
“In addition to helping parents and their children access early learning activities it can also help the parent champions themselves to gain new skills and confidence.
“This can be particularly helpful for those seeking to access further training or employment.”
People interested in training as Parent Champions should contact project coordinator Estelle Cooper by emailing estelle@artworks creative.org.uk or by calling 01274 256924.
