A SCOUT group celebrating its 100th anniversary is appealing for past members to help it mark the special occasion.
Throughout 2015 members of the 5th Bradford South Scout Group will be marking the milestone and is holding two events.
The group was based at the Tetley Street Memorial Baptist Church in Legrams Lane, Lidget Green, until 2005 when it moved to Clayton Heights Methodist Church.
It has always been known as ‘Tetley Street’ but was first registered as the 64th Bradford.
Following a massive increase in the movement’s popularity in its early years, the group became the 5th Bradford South.
The Scout movement was founded by Lord Baden Powell in 1907 and Tetley Street is now the longest continually running group in the Bradford South District, being formed only three years after the Movement’s incorporation by Royal Charter in 1912 and continuing to meet during the war years.
Many activities are planned for the year ahead including a Summer Camp on Brownsea Island, which lies in Poole Harbour, near Dorset. The island is now owned by the National Trust and is the location of the Scout Movement’s first camp in 1907.
Former members are invited to an anniversary service this Sunday at Clayton Heights Methodist Church and a social evening on Saturday, June 6, at Shelf Village Hall. More details are available from the group scout leader, Ann Lovatt, at annlovatt@hotmail.co.uk.
