CANCER patient Phil Kirtlan is set to make a splash at the London 2012 Olympic venue to raise cash for Marie Curie.

Mr Kirtlan, 46, will lead a five-strong team at Bradford-based Yorkshire Building Society, where he is head of property, in a 5km relay swimming challenge at the London Aquatics Centre on Sunday.

Phil, along with YBS colleagues Rachel Smith, Katie Gleghorn, Gabriella Robinson and Anisah Zulffkar, will swim 1km each at The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Phil, who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in September 2014, has had two operations and has undergone radiotherapy treatment and is currently feeling healthy and well.

After setting out to raise £2,000, the team has already had pledges of more than £4,000 as part of Yorkshire Building Society’s Hour of Need campaign, to help Marie Curie nurses to provide more support for terminally ill people and their families .

Phil (pictured) said: “I had a small lump on my neck which was pushing my Adam’s apple to the right. I went to the doctors but it took from June until to September to find out what it was which was a long wait.”
