THE bunting has gone up in Silsden as the town readies itself for another visit by top international cyclists.
Residents have decorated the town centre to welcome the new cycle race, the Tour de Yorkshire, which will travel through on Sunday, May 3.
The riders in the high-profile follow-up to last summer’s Tour de France Grand Depart will reach Silsden at about 3.20pm after racing through Oxenhope, Haworth, Oakworth, Goose Eye, Sutton, Cross Hills and Kildwick.
The riders will travel along Skipton Road from Kildwick, through Bell Square, then up Bolton Road towards Addingham. Members of the town’s Grand deParty group, which grew out of Silsden’s Tour de France group, are looking forward to both the professional riders and competitors in the Sportive amateur race, which precedes the tour by a couple of hours.
Silsden town councillor Rebecca Whitaker, one of the volunteers, said: “We want to welcome everyone to join the people of Silsden in enjoying another memorable day for our town.
“We are grateful to everyone who has given permission for us to decorate their premises.”
