A PAIR of Bradford music groups have been given more than £80,000 in grants to fund two new projects.
Youth Music, a charity which makes music available to youngsters across England, has handed out the cash to two new schemes.
Bradford Community Broadcasting (BCB) has been given £54,400 to help fund its two-year Sounds of the City project.
This will see sessions delivered in schools, including Belle Vue Girls’ School, and youth groups across the Bradford district. It is open to youngsters aged 13 to 19 and starts next month.
They will be given tuition by local musicians in a range of regular workshops.
The music and radio programmes they produce will be broadcast on BCB in the future.
Mary Dowson, BCB director, said: “It is a really exciting opportunity to develop young people’s talent for music across the district.”
Meanwhile, All Star Entertainment has been handed £30,000 to help budding musicians in Bradford.
The training providers help young people get prepared for training, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.
The project will take place in the Bradford South area at the TFB Centre, Broadstone Way, Holme Wood.
It is currently recruiting youngsters aged 13 to 19 to participate.
Alex Church, project manager for All Star Entertainments, said: “This grant means we can support so many more young people to get engaged with positive creative music-making experiences, find their own ways of self-expression and share their music journeys with peers and the wider community.”
