A WORKING group set up to help bring Bradford’s different communities together has set out its aims for the coming year.
The Community Relations delivery group, part of the district’s Stronger Communities Partnership, hopes to develop long-term plans to understand and respond to emerging community tensions.
These include levels of Islamophobia and issues around the sexual exploitation of children.
The group also aims to “monitor the impact of austerity on community relations within the district” and support a range of events that build stronger relationships between different communities, according to a new report going before Bradford Council’s corporate overview and scrutiny committee on Thursday.
The report, by Steve Hartley, Bradford Council’s strategic director for environment and sport, also sets out the progress made locally by the anti-terror strategy Prevent.
It says: “The district’s Prevent programme has been delivering training to 3,000 teachers and school staff about safeguarding around radicalisation.
“This includes providing curriculum materials, developing dialogue, debate, and discussions.”
The committee will meet at 5pm at the City Hall in Bradford.
