NINETY white rose bushes are to be planted in memory of the Rawdon servicemen who gave their lives in the Great War.
Poppies and four flowering cherry trees will also form part of a living tribute to the fallen. A flowerbed has been prepared next to the newly-installed memorial stone on Rawdon Littlemoor by Rawdon-in-Bloom members councillors Phil Gomersall and Bob Barber.
The group said: “The bed will be planted with 90 white rose bushes, the same number of members of our community who lost their lives in the war. The roses will also be under-planted with red poppies and four small flowering cherry trees, one at each corner. Should funding be available two more benches will be sited there.”
Spring bulbs planted in four locations by Rawdon-in-Bloom are now in full flower, brightening up the local environment.
