PLANS for a new takeaway in Leeds Road, Bradford, have been blocked because it would be operating only a few yards from a children’s play area.
The business was proposed for 305 Leeds Road, formally a shop, but Bradford Council has now refused the application.
Submitted by Mr Farooq, the plans would have seen the takeaway open within 50 metres of a recreation ground in Upper Seymour Street that includes football pitches.
Last year the Council introduced a new policy that would prevent any new take away opening within 400 metres of a school, park or youth centre. The rule was introduced to help cut down on childhood obesity.
Planning officers said: “The proposed take away would be within 400 metres of a designated recreation ground and other youth centred facilities, and therefore fails to comply to rules.”
