An alleged assault of a UKIP Parliamentary candidate after last night's hustings has been reported to police.
Owais Rajput, the party's candidate for Bradford East, says he was pushed and verbally abused after the hustings involving the Bradford West candidates, held at Bradford Cathedral.
He was at the event to support Harry Boota, the party's Bradford West candidate.
Mr Rajput said the incident happened at around 8.15pm, and was reported to West Yorkshire Police shortly afterwards.
A police spokesman said: "We are investigating a report of an assault which allegedly took place following an event at Bradford Cathedral on Sunday evening."
Rumours circulating on social media that the alleged attacker was a supporter of George Galloway's Respect party have been denied.
A spokesman for Respect said the man concerned was “definitely not” involved with the party.
Standing in Bradford West are: Harry Boota (UKIP), George Galloway (Respect), George Grant (Con), Alun Griffiths (Lib Dem), Celia Hickson (Green Party), Therese Hirst (English Democrats - Putting England First), James Kirkcaldy (Independent) and Naz Shah (Lab).
