The crash happened at about 7pm on Friday when the red Alfa Romeo Mito, travelling along the A647 Stanningley bypass towards Bradford, left the road and struck a tree close to Dawsons Corner roundabout in Pudsey.
The 41-year-old male driver was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious head and back injuries which were not believed to be life threatening.
Anyone who saw the car before it crashed or saw the crash itself, should contact PC 863 Laybourne at the Safer Roads and Neighbourhood Support team on 101.
