NEW volunteers have been trained in Keighley to encourage new mums who want to breastfeed their babies.
The Breastfeeding Buddies have undergone 10 weeks' training so they can support pregnant and breastfeeding mothers across the area.
Mum-of-one Laura Gardner, one of the new Buddies, said she signed up because of the encouragement and help she was given as a new mum.
She said: “The buddies helped me make sure he was feeding well. It was lovely to just have a cup of tea and a chat. I’m so grateful for the support that was available.”
Women can access support from the buddies at the free breastfeeding drop-in at KHL on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am to noon. The buddies also visit mums in their homes, at a local Children’s Centre or locations such as a café or toddler group, and over the phone, via Facebook, or in hospital.
They also hold antenatal sessions at Keighley Healthy Living in Scott Street, including Tuesdays (April 14) from 6pm to 8pm. Call 01535 677177 to reserve a place.
Breastfeeding Buddies can be contacted by calling helpline number 07990 700842, or via a midwife or health visitor.
