RESIDENTS have voiced their opposition to plans to move a post office in East Bowling, Bradford.
More than 60 per cent of people who responded to a survey conducted by David Ward, the Liberal Democrat candidate for Bradford East constituency, said they would not be able to use the New Hey Post Office in New Hey Road, if it was moved to East Bowling service station on Wakefield Road.
The relocation is being considered as part of the Post Office’s modernisation programme.
Mr Ward carried out the survey after receiving a petition from residents highlighting their concerns. Now he has written to the Post Office to set out their fears. "The New Hey Post Office is an extremely valued community asset for people in East Bowling,” said Mr Ward.
“It’s more than just a post office, it’s part of the local community.
“It’s a well-used and much-loved service and to move it to somewhere else would not be delivering a service that people need or want.
“Post Office Ltd seem to applying a strict and rigid criteria about their modernisation programme without taking into consideration the feelings of local people and the appropriateness of the location for local service users.
“It’s clear that local people want it to stay just where it is and not change so I’ll continue to press Post Office Ltd to ensure that this happens.”
which is designed to make larger outlets offering an enhanced range of services.
