PUPILS at a Bradford secondary school have learned crucial life skills during a "Super Safety Challenge" day involving nearly 200 children.
Year 7 students at Queensbury School, on Deanstones Lane, worked with qualified first-aiders to learn CPR, using 30 dummies to learn what action to take if someone is showing signs of a heart attack.
Jemma Thacker, from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, also visited the school to teach fire prevention and safety skills, with children given the chance to try on equipment such as breathing apparatus.
A third workshop focused on the topic of cyberbullying, with members of the school nurse team teaching pupils how to stay safe online and where to go for support if required.
All the activities were supported by a team of Year 13 students from the school.
Rahila Hussain, enterprise coordinator, said: “We are equipping our students with confidence and ‘can do’ practical skills which they can use throughout their lives. It’s great that the students all engaged with the activities, and could see the relevance of the ‘Super Safety’ day for themselves and their futures.”
