A DEDICATED rugby league supporter has died at the age of 101.
Peggy Booth, who had been living in Tonson Court, in Showfield, Keighley, had enjoyed “brilliant” health almost all of her life, according to one of her daughters, Virginia Jarman.
“She wasn’t loud, but she wasn’t shy and retiring either – she always liked to be doing things,” she added.
Mrs Booth was born in Addingham but spent most of her life in Keighley. She married railway signalman Fred Booth in 1934 and the couple went on to have two daughters – Virginia and Pat.
They lived in Buxton Street, off Dalton Lane, and Mrs Booth was a clerical worker for the John Knox Mill, in Silsden, later working for Keighley Lifts.
Both she and her husband were devoted fans of Keighley Rugby League Club.
, travelling to watch the team’s home and away games for many years.
Mrs Jarman said: “My mum was on the supporter’s club committee for a long time. She and the other members used to sell pies and cups of tea from a little wooden hut at the rugby ground.
“The club’s colours were blue and white back then and one year, when Keighley was doing quite well in the cup, my mum and my sister made rosettes out of crepe paper.”
