SIX rapes were reported at care homes in West Yorkshire last year, according to the county’s force, with 15 complaints of other sexual offences also recorded.
The statistics relate to homes which accommodate the elderly and children and show a substantial rise.
The highest number of rapes previously recorded in the last five years was 2010 when three were reported. There were also only five reports of other sexual offences during that year.
Violent crime reported at care homes also increased sharply during 2014, with 34 incidents recorded of violence resulting in injuries, with 46 others where there was violence reported but no injuries sustained.
Numbers of thefts reported at care homes have been steadily reducing over the last five years however, with 121 reported last year.
That compares to 244 in 2010.
