A NOVICE boxer won his first charity fight, held in Bradford at the weekend in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Shaun Crow, 27 was among 50 boxers competing at Valley Parade on Saturday, as part of the Ultra White Collar Boxing initiative.
His grandmother died of cancer and one of his aunts has recently been diagnosed with the illness. His own involvement in the charity boxing has so far raised nearly £300.
Mr Crow, of Hainworth, Keighley, took part in an intensive eight-week training course to prepare for the fight – the first time in his life he has ever done boxing.
He won the match with a second round stoppage by which time he was judged to have defeated his opponent.
Mr Crow, who is a welder and a married father of two, said: “I was tired, but I was just running on adrenaline.
“It was hard to come to terms with the atmosphere when I walked into the ring.
“There were 29 fights on the night and mine was the 22nd. As there were 1,000 people there you can imagine how hot it was.”
