MEMBERS of creative art group Saltaire Inspired are overjoyed at earning a cash injection of £14,800 towards their programme of exhibitions, commissions and workshops for families.
The grant from Arts Council England will be used to boost the success of the group's three annual visual arts events, Saltaire Arts Trail in May, the Makers Fair Festival Special in September and the Living Advent Calendar in the countdown to Christmas.
Amanda Chinneck, creative director of Saltaire Arts Trail said all those involved were thrilled with the news of cash award.
"This is a really welcome boost and will enable us to deliver lots of new activity for our audiences.
"We're especially excited to be hiring an exhibition of high quality contemporary craft from Highlights North in Cumbria.
"This will be the first professional touring exhibition we have ever brought to the village," she said.
The Grant for the Arts award will also enable artists from the craft exhibition to work with pupils from Saltaire Primary School to create art that will be displayed as part of Saltaire Arts Trail.
“We are proud to be involved with Saltaire Arts Trail," said Sally Stoker, head teacher at Saltaire Primary.
"We're committed to nurturing children’s creativity and Saltaire Arts trail gives us the opportunity to work with local artists, be inspired in new ways and to celebrate all aspects of the visual arts through our local heritage and community," Mrs Stoker said.
Last year the Saltaire Inspired team had a complete review of its structure and goals and has developed fresh new plans to engage even more local people in the events which always brings thousands of visitors to the World Heritage Site.
The Grants for the Arts award from Arts Council England follows the announcement in the autumn last year that Bradford District Council will be awarding Saltaire Inspired annual funding for the next three years through their Bradford Arts & Cultural Investment Fund.
“With secure regular funding from Bradford Council and Arts Council England funding for 2015, a new administrator to support our lovely volunteers and with new plans for all our annual activities, we are all looking forward to a fantastic year ahead, ” said June Russell, who heads Saltaire Inspired.
The next Saltaire Arts Trail will take place from May 23 to May 25.
