A BINGLEY woman set part of her kitchen on fire after emptying an ashtray into a plastic bin.
Firefighters were called to deal with the incident on Lady Park Avenue at 10.51pm last night, after the 65-year-old had tried but failed to put out the blaze herself.
A spokesman for the Bingley fire crew said the property had no working smoke detectors, but the woman had been awoken by a burning smell.
The fire affected a unit under the kitchen sink.
The woman was given a check-up for slight smoke inhalation by ambulance staff at the scene.
