NUMBERS of motorists fined or prosecuted for speeding on West Yorkshire's motorway network tumbled by more than half last year, compared to 2013.
Statistics released by West Yorkshire Police show 1,009 motorists faced police action in 2014, including 80 found to be breaking variable speed limits set below the usual 70mph limit.
Another 86 were found to be driving between 71 and 78 mph, with 843 drivers exceeding 79 mph.
The previous year the total had been 2,338 with more than 2,000 of those found to be driving in excess of 79mph. Totals for the two previous years were also above 2,000.
