MUNCHKINS, Flying Monkeys and good witches will be a common sight in Bradford over in the coming months.

Echoes of Oz began in style with a Rainbow Bazaar at Forsters Bistro and quirky cabaret event.

The programme is inspired by the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz film movie, and will involves art installations at this year’s Bradford Festival in June and Bradford Shine in October as well as Oz-themed flash mobs, exhibitions and performances.

Highlights of the project are include a recreation of Dorothy’s tornado-hit house, which will be built in City Park; a specially made Ruby Slipper slide and a Yellow Brick Road through the mirror pool at the Shine Festival.

Jenny Wilson, of Irregular Arts, said Echoes of Oz will feature a cast of more than 300 Bradfordians.

She said: “There will be lots of moments inspired by the Wizard of Oz, and We want people to find out There’s No Place Like Bradford.'"This is a really big deal for us, we’ve never had this scale of project before.”Echoes of Oz has been funded by an £80,000 Arts Council grant.
