TWO COUNCILLORS have bought a defibrillator to help heart attack victims.
The life-saving device will be stored in a secure box outside the Community Hub, in Steeton, where it will be accessible to all residents.
If people dial 999 in an emergency they will be given a code to open the box and instructions on how to use the equipment.
The defibrillator has been funded by Councillors Adrian Naylor and Chris Atkinson, who both represent Craven ward on Bradford Council, with cash from their ward allocation.
The pair have previously used ward cash to buy defibrillators in Silsden, where they are both also town councillors. Cllr Atkinson said: “This extends our plan to provide defibrillators throughout the ward. They are located in external, tamperproof cases and are available 24 hours a day.”
In Silsden the first defibrillator, outside St James’s Church, was funded by Cllr Naylor, while both councillors funded a defibrillator at the Incommunities housing facility in Gloucester Avenue.
The Community Hub, which is used for meetings and activities by several local groups, was built by Steeton-with-Eastburn Parish Council with cash from a variety of grant bodies.
