MORE than three quarters of people across West Yorkshire would use buses more if plans to introduce new vehicles get the green light, research has shown.
First, which operates services across the Bradford district and beyond, has published a report on its public consultation onover its New Bus for West Yorkshire (NBfWY) proposals.
The scheme includes the introduction of new vehicles similar to the updated Routemaster buses being used in London, alongside smart ticketing procedures, and improved infrastructure to tackle congestion hotspots.
The report showed that 77 per cent of respondents would use buses more under the new proposals, with 85 per cent approving of the new vehicles’ layout, of the , and 64 per cent stating they would prefer to pay fares using a smartcard system.
The company said it will work with partners to identify a “potential corridor” to pilot the new proposals.
First’s commercial head of , Paul Turner, said: “The consultation has shown potential for a large increase in bus use across the county.
