BIG CATS danced at the Zany Zoo in the latest production by children at a school.
Years four and five pupils at Lees Primary School, Cross Roads, Keighley, were put through their SATs – the Standard Animals Tests – in the musical play.
Led by Rowan Holdsworth’s zookeeper Zak, a variety of animals showed off their talents on stage.
Music coordinator Helen Keighley, who co-produced Zany Zoo with teacher Phil Whitworth, said the children gave fantastic performances.
She said: “Trying to open a zoo when your chimpanzees want to get on with the cleaning, your alligator is a vegetarian, the llama keeps cooking piz-za and the tigers put on a show-stopping song and dance routine, is a real challenge."
“Add in a dancing elephant, infectiously laughing hyenas who just won’t stop, and spiders intent on weaving a world-wide web and you have your work cut out!
“But the humans in the play realised we should be embracing everyone’s individuality and celebrating diversity.”
Sid Spangle the singing tiger, played by April Harrison, spoke for every child as she said: “I am a one-off, I am truly unique!”.
