POLICE are warning people not to be taken in by conmen making phone calls about bank fraud and claiming to be police officers.
The warning comes after a member of the public took a call from a man claiming to be a detective investigating fraud on their bank account and asking for his account details, which included his Personal Identification Number.
He was asked to call the man back on the police non-emergency number 101, to verify his identity, but his call appeared to be rerouted back to the suspects, who it is believed had held their line open.
The victim became suspicious of the caller and reported the incident to the police.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said a police officer would never ask for bank account security details, and urged members of the public not to give them out.
