A SENIOR councillor who is raising cash for a hospice is putting his money where his mouth is in a novel fundraising challenge.
Councillor Glen Miller, leader of the Conservative group at Bradford Council, lost his wife of 33 years, Vivienne, to cancer in early October last year.
He is raising money for a new summerhouse at Oxenhope’s Manorlands hospice as a thank you for the care its staff gave her in the last few weeks of her life.
And in his latest fundraising drive, the Worth Valley councillor will be giving out £10 notes to various people, with the instruction to make find a way of making the cash grow over within the next 30 days before donating it all to the appeal.
Cllr Miller said: “I remain overwhelmed with gratitude to the Manorlands Hospice, to whom I shall forever be indebted for the first class care and support that they provided to both my wife and I.
“Resultantly, I am undertaking a rolling programme of fundraising activities for the hospice.
“At present I am attempting a novel way to raise funds for the project, by giving £10 to various people and asking that by whatever means they see fit – as long as it is legal of course – they increase its value over the next 30 days, prior to donating it to the Manorlands Summer House Fund in memory of my wife, Vivienne Anne Miller.”
