A DAREDEVIL grandma and her son will plummet from a small plane in sponsored skydive in aid of the National Autism Society tomorrow.
Maureen Morley, 68, of Sandbeds, Keighley, and her son Matthew 34, are making the leap of faith to raise cash that will help local youngsters like her grandson Oscar, nine, who is on the autism spectrum.
Web designer Mr Morley, of Bingley, helps run the Keighley & District Branch of the National Autistic Society and when he told his mum of the planned fundraising jump, she leapt at the chance.
"I'm brave or stupid, I don't know which," said Mrs Morley, a keen table tennis player at the Keighley Table Tennis centre.
"I've been up in a helicopter, but I've never done a skydive before and when Mathew said he was doing a jump, I thought 'oh I wish I was up there with you'.
"Then he texted me to say 'are you up for it Mum' and I replied 'I certainly am!'"
Mrs Morley said it was something she had fancied doing for a while.
"I'm really, really looking forward to it," she said.
But Mr Morley, who also has a daughter Pheobe, seven, said he was far from happy as the day drew closer.
"I've done it before and know I'm terrified of heights.
"But I think if people are going to sponsor you, it's better if it's not to do something you enjoy.
"The nerves are really starting to kick in now - especially as so-called friends keep sending me pictures of skydiving accidents!
But Oscar, a pupil at Wilsden Primary School, was remarkably relaxed about his dad and grandmother's death defying jump.
"He's a lovely cheeky lad who was diagnosed as on the Autism spectrum in 2013.
"And when I told him what we were doing he just said 'Oh cool'," Mr Morley said.
Mr Morley helps run a social drop-in morning for the Keighley branch of the Autism Society at Great Shakes drinks bar in Main Street, Bingley. Details of which can be found at KeighleyAutism.co.uk
So far he has raised £750 in sponsorship, but is being beaten by his mum who has been promised £1,000.
