BRADFORD’S City Hall turned purple last night to show support for people with epilepsy.
Purple Day, the global day for epilepsy awareness, saw Bradford Council building change colour to raise awareness of the condition.
Other buildings across the UK and the world followed suit.
Purple Day, which was held across the world yesterday, saw the Epilepsy Action charity asking ‘What does epilepsy look like?’ and challenging misconceptions about what it is like to live with the condition.
It launched a series of short films documenting people’s experiences of living with epilepsy over the year. An estimated one in 100 people across the world suffer from epilepsy.
The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Mike Gibbons, said: "I'm very pleased that Bradford has decided to take part in the national recognition of epilepsy, a condition that can be debilitating for many and for others causing significant problems.
"However, much is being done to help wherever possible. I am grateful for that.
"Every year brings new medical awareness and breakthroughs and hopefully, in the near future, help bring about the relief that sufferers need."
