WEST Yorkshire Police says it has increased transparency and public accountability on stop and search powers.
HM Inspectorate of Constabulary has criticised police nationally for failing to address the issue.
West Yorkshire temporary Assistant Chief Constable Paul Money said stop and search powers were a vital tool in keeping communities safe, assisting in the prevention and detection of crime.
He added: “The public rightly want to know that these powers are used properly. We want to be open about its use of stop and search and we have independent scrutiny panels from members of the public, reviewing its use on a regular basis.”
He said stop and searches were recorded on mobile technology, that the force was developing a process for the public to see how officers use the powers, and was improving the quality of the information on the search recordto make it clearer what happened and why.
