A banned driver who led police on a 100mph car chase has been locked up for 30 months.

Liam Hanbury, 24, was driving a stolen Audi A3 when he sped through red lights and careered on to the wrong side of the road during the high-speed pursuit.

Bradford Crown Court was told by prosecutor Ewan McLachlan that the following police car had its lights flashing and siren sounding yet Hanbury carried on.

He was only brought to a stop when another police car got in front of him. Hanbury still tried to get away but was caught after twice crashing into the police vehicles.

Mr McLachlan told the court that Hanbury, of Bank Crest, Baildon, who has previous convictions for dangerous driving and driving while disqualified, was sentenced to four years in custody in 2004 for handling stolen goods and burglary.

Just a few weeks before this latest incident he had been caught trying to break into a house in Birkenshaw where a Porsche was parked in the driveway.

Then in January police spotted him in the Audi on Harrogate Road, Eccleshill and began to follow him and tried to make him pull over.

But Hanbury then sped onto Bolton Road and accelerated up to 90mph in a 40mph zone. He then drove through a red light at Idle Road and reached speeds of 100mph.

Mr McLachlan told the judge that Hanbury came back onto Harrogate Road and again reached 100mph in the built-up area during the ten-minute chase.

He swerved his way past Thackley Corner at 80mph before he was eventually stopped in the collision with the second police car, which Mr McLachlan said was lifted off the ground in the impact.

Hanbury claimed that he did not know that it was the police who were following him, but at an earlier hearing he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and attempted burglary.
