THE leader of Bradford Council was compared to big-eared Disney elephant Dumbo in a row over the authority’s role in property development.
At tonight’s full council meeting, Bradford’s Conservative group put forward a motion expressing alarm at a range of development plans, including the creation of four swimming pools and the refurbishments of City Hall and other buildings.
The group accused the council’s Labour leadership of creating vanity projects.
Conservative group leader Councillor Glen Miller told council leader David Green: “You are acting like a Dumbo in leading this council.”
He said this was because Cllr Green was “flapping around and getting nowhere”.
But Cllr Green responded by waving his arms around, saying: “He flies, Dumbo flies!”
The motion was defeated, despite backing from the Liberal Democrats, and a Labour version was passed instead.
Lord Mayor Councillor Mike Gibbons said: “I feared I would have to rule on whether Dumbo flaps or flies.”
