A DRUG addict who burgled an 89-year-old woman has been jailed for 18 months.
Simone Greenwood, 23, broke the safety chain on the flat door overnight on November 26-27 to steal the old lady's television set while she slept, Bradford Crown Court heard today.
Greenwood, who was living at Parkwood Rise, Keighley, pleaded guilty to the offence at an elderly people's complex in the town.
She took the stolen television to her boyfriend's home and later told the police where to recover it, prosecutor Heather Gilmore said.
The court heard that Greenwood had convictions for battery and criminal damage but had kept out of trouble for the past three years.
She had been in custody for the past month after she was remanded by a judge at the Crown Court.
Greenwood's barrister, Clare Benson, said her client had been abusing heroin, crack cocaine, cannabis and painkillers.
It was an opportunist burglary because she needed money.
She hoped to either meet or write to her victim to apologise.
She hoped to start a new life in a supported hostel, with help to beat her drug addiction.
