A GROUP established to keep Haworth Village Hall and Community Hub open says it will begin work on having the property transferred into its ownership.
The building in Butt Lane, previously called Haworth Community Centre, is owned by Bradford Council but its future has been under threat since it was subject to a review of council assets.
Ashna Yates, chairman of the body set up to keep the facility open, said a meeting with council officers on March 17 had agreed to spend six months working on an asset transfer.
“We changed the name of the building – it’s now called Haworth Village Hall & Community Hub – and it will be called this on all legal documents from now on,” she said.
“We’re applying for more funding and are holding a fundraising event in the building on April 18.”
She noted that all the locks at the property were due to be changed on Tuesday March 24, so asked anyone who uses the centre regularly to contact her to make sure they can gain access.
She added: “We’re also holding an open day in April. The date is to be confirmed but it will be a Saturday.”
