EXPLOSIVE fun came to the classroom when Oakbank students celebrated British Science Week.
Pupils at the Keighley school took part in a demo day held as part of the national initiative.
The school’s technical team carried out a series of experiments, illustrating combustion using different powders and the science of fireworks and magnets.
“It was great fun and went really well,” said senior technician Cheryl Moore. “The aim of the day was to increase students’ interest in science topics.“Groups of students came off the normal timetable during lessons to take part and it was very successful. About 300 pupils were involved.”
And the following morning, students took part in experiments around the solar eclipse.
The school has a hugely popular science club, which meets weekly.
Earlier this year members made it through to the final stages of a national Lego robot competition.
The Oakbank team reached the last eight of the contest, at Loughborough University, eventually losing out to the overall winners.
It built and programmed a robot to complete various tasks and designed a phone app to help students learn and revise different subjects, through the use of quizzes and videos.
