TWO tonnes of rubbish were cleared from Eccleshill’s streets as part of a national spring clean event.
Bradford Council wardens, ward officers, street cleansing staff and residents across the district took part in national Big Spring Clean Day.
Settees, bricks, furniture and wood were just some of the items cleared away from the community’s streets in the clean-up operation held on Saturday.
Daren Parr, Bradford East ward officer, said: “It was a good morning’s work and it made a huge difference to the streets. We want residents to look after the streets now and take care of open spaces around them.”
“It is very important work that we have done in Eccleshill.”
One of the volunteers who took part, Ian Keating, 42, of Mount Avenue, helped to clear a footpath of debris, weeds and stinging nettles from a footpath outside his home.
He said: “When I looked out of my kitchen window, I just saw rubbish. It looks a lot better now.
“The footpath was all overgrown and derelict before.
“We have made it safer for kids to use the footpath now.
“It’s for the sake of the neighbourhood and for the benefit of everyone.”
