This morning's near-total eclipse of the sun was visible from between the clouds in Bradford.

Through the cloud there have been clear views of the eclipse which was at its peak at 9.33am in Bradford. It lasted until 10.43am and around 90 per cent of the sun's surface was covered at its peak.

Despite the cloud, the event is expected to have a significant impact on the National Grid with a predicted loss of 850 megawatts of solar power from the electricity supply network.

The last solar eclipse of such significance occurred on August 11, 1999, and the next "deep" partial eclipse visible in the UK will not occur until August 12, 2026. The next total eclipse will not be until September 2090.
