A WOMAN who was airlifted to hospital after falling from a bridge onto the M62 has died, police have confirmed.
The westbound side of the motorway was closed near Cleckheaton at junction 26 as a result of the incident, but re-opened at about noon. The eastbound carriageway was temporarily closed to allow the air ambulance to land.
The Oxford Road bridge, where the woman fell from near Gomersal and Birkenshaw, was also closed.
Emergency services were called to the scene at about 10.15am.
The injured woman was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment, but police have now said she died from her injuries.
A police spokesman said: “We can confirm this incident was a fatality. We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident and would appeal for them to come forward.”
