TAKE That frontman Gary Barlow is to write a stage musical based on The Calendar Girls, with the backing of tourism body Welcome to Yorkshire.
The man who wrote the band's massive hits will turn his talent to telling the story of how members of Rylstone's Women's Institute in Rylstone, bared all for a charity calendar in 1999.
Their artfully concealed efforts behind cakes and flowers prompted a hit movie and more recently a stage show The original calendar was a fundraising scheme prompted by the death death of WI member Angela Baker's husband, John, from non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
The musical will be officially launched near the Calendar Girls’ home in Burnsall in the Yorkshire Dales, when more details will be announced.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "To have someone of Gary Barlow's calibre working on a Yorkshire musical is amazing and I am sure, like the Calendar Girls film and the stage play, this musical will be a huge success.
