A FIRE in a cellar in the early hours of this morning has caused significant smoke damage to a house.
Crews from Brighouse and Odsal attended the incident in George Street, Hipperholme, at about 2.30am.
Smoke alarms had alerted the occupants of the house, who managed to escape before firefighters arrived at the scene.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
A spokesman for Brighouse fire station said: "People need to ensure they test their smoke alarms are working properly.
"If they're not, or you don't have any, please contact your local fire station."
